Outtakes from “A Forgotten America”, and updates and revisits from the coal camps as my walk continues.
Only a few residents are left around Jenkinjones, but everyone I spoke with shared the story of the coal-haul truck that hit this bridge, breaking some of the big timbers.
Originally, this AEP facility was coal-fed and was one of the most efficient power plants in the country. Now fully converted to natural gas, the incoming rails are choked with empty coal cars.
A piece of history. A part of the landscape.
Built in perfect solar alignment, this entire 8 mile canyon complex functions as a huge and ancient astronomical clock, accurately marking the day / night cycles and seasonal progressions, Equinox and Solstice, with Pueblo Bonito at its center. So Beautiful
Alone here in the canyon at nightfall is hard to describe.
